Windshield Long Crack Repair is easy with the Crack Eraser system.

A repair will take about 10 to 15 minutes to perform. Cracks unlike chips get dirt in them from normal driving and expand with temperature changes. The sooner you do the repair the better it will look. Generally windshields with cracks over 2 months old should be replaced.

If the crack has been wet from the weather or a car wash it will need 1 to 2 hours in the sun to dry out before a repair can be performed. To check for moisture in a crack look at the crack straight on from above and you will see it plainly.  Then put your chin close to the windshield about 6 to 12 inches away and look at the crack at an angle to see if it mostly disappears. It should look pretty much the same from any angle if it is dry. If it goes away at any angle it has moisture it and will need to dry out. 

Drilling the end of the crack to help stop its progression. There are two methods of stopping the end of a crack. One is to drill just ahead of the crack about 2 widths of the drill bit or 2 16ths of an inch all the way to the plastic. When you hit the plastic you will feel the drill bit change and see a small disturbance where it went through the plastic.

If you bought a kit with a taper drill part way down about 1 half the distance to the plastic and tap a bull’s eye with a taper. If you are unsure of what is half way down to the plastic is use method # 1 and drill all the way to the plastic.

 Lube the Crack Eraser tools suction cups. Next push down on the tool until the suction cups are down tight and all the air is out. Then slide the tool all along the crack clear to the edge and back to the end of the crack.  Keep the tool perpendicular to the crack. Make sure not to get grease in the crack.

Install the Injector and adjusting bolt by treading them in clock wise until they touch the windshield then turn each another 3 turns to put some pressure on the windshield and create a seal. The Crack Eraser tool should be level.

Mounting Crack Expander.  Because cracks are tight at the tip it is necessary to put pressure from the inside on the crack. We use the Crack Eraser crack expander to flex open the first 1 to 6 inches of a long crack. Lube the suction cups and mount the expander on the inside of the windshield starting about 6 inches from the tip of the crack and slide it up to within 1/4 inch from the tip of the crack. Next turn adjusting bolt up clock wise until it touches the windshield. Do not start putting pressure on the crack yet.

Add 8 drops of Crack Eraser resin to the injector. The injector should be just a head of the drill hole on the crack so no resin will start to go it until we are ready to inject the long crack.

Start to inject by sliding the Crack Eraser tool over the drill hole and treading the injector clock wise until the O Ring starts to stand up. The O Ring gets fatter when pressure is being applied to the crack. Do not turn injector in too far as to push the O Ring out of the injector. Next look to see if resin is flowing into the crack by looking at the crack from an angle 6 inches to 12 inches away from the crack. It usually helps if you put your chin almost on the windshield. If you look straight on you will not see resin flowing in. If you do not see resin flowing in you will need to start turning the crack expander clock wise until you can see resin going in the crack when looking at an angle. 

Now you are ready to start sliding and injecting the crack. You need to keep the Crack Expander ahead of the Crack Eraser injector. You must also not rock or disturb the vehicle while you are injecting. You also need to make sure resin is flowing by looking at an angle while injecting and adding resin pressure by turning the injector piston clock wise as you go as needed to keep the resin flowing down the crack. Remove tool by backing off the injector piston pressure off by turning the injector piston counter clock wise until the injector is off the treads. Next twist the tool of the windshield. Make sure the long crack is completely cured for at least 15 minutes in the sun before removing the Crack Eraser tool.
