Windshield stars can very allot in size and design. Some have small bulls-eyes to them such as the samples here. Some are all legs with no bulls-eye. Most Stars need to be
drilled to make a better path for the resin to flow into. Drilling helps the stars legs fill better and speeds up the repair. There are two ways to
drill. One is to drill down to the plastic. The other is to drill part way down
to the plastic usually about half way to the plastic and tap a bulls-eye. If you are unsure of how deep to drill or only have a basic kit with out a taper drill to the plastic. Go easy on the pressure with your drill so you do not break off the tip of the drill bit as you break into to plastic layer in the middle of the windshield.
If you choose to drill and tap drill part way down to the
plastic and use a taper and a probe to tap a bulls-eye. It only takes a very
small tap to connect the legs of the star and improve the path for the resin to
flow.
Screw suction cups on to Crack Easer tool. The suctions cups go on the
non ribbed side of the tool where you see word Crack Eraser. Lube suction cups with lubricant.
To mount the crack eraser tool set the tool with the bigger threaded
part over the chip you are going to repair. It usually works better if
you mount the tool above or below the repair not to the side of it
unless the chip is close to the edge then mount to the side. Push
firmly down on all three suction cups until you do not here a squishing
sound. It is important you push hard enough to get all the air out the
suction cups or the tool may pop off during the repair.
Install Injector O Ring on the Piston and push into the injector do not
tread in yet. Next tread injector into the crack eraser tool. Then
tread adjusting bolt into crack eraser tool.
Adjust the injector and adjusting bolt by turning each of the in until
they touch the windshield the turn 3 turns more on both the injector
and the adjusting bolt. You want the Crack Eraser tool to be level with
some pressure on the injector so you can keep a seal while injecting.
Add 5 drops of chip repair resin to injector. If the Crack Eraser tool is being
used for the first time you will need to add 5 drops of chip resin to
the injector. If the tool has been used for another chip it will still
have some resin left in the injector so 3 drops will be enough resin
to a chip repair.
It is very important that you cure the repair under pressure in the sun or with a cure lamp for at least 10 to 15 minutes after the injecting process. This lets the UV reflect in a start the resin curing process. If the tool is removed to soon air may creep back into the star repair before it has time to fully cure. Curing under pressure prevents this from happening. It is fine to slide the tool away and look to see how the repair is filling, but only look for less than 10 seconds and the slide the tool back on and continue to cure. You do not want direct sunlight or UV until you are sure the air will not creep back in. The mirror helps the curing under pressure by reducing the time and aids in being able to see the repair filling with out sliding the tool away to look at the progress. If you slide the tool away and you see the air which will show up black coming back into the star repair immediately slide tool back onto star and continue to cure for another 5 minutes.
Pit fill the repair with pit filler, crack resin or if you bought a basic kit use chip resin.
